Keys to Success With the Help of Bible Verses

Everyone has their own definition of success, however, there are certain, fundamental keys to success that can aid everyone in their journey. Founder of New York City barber shops, Artisan Barber and Orchard & Ludlow and the man behind The Grooming Alchemist, Charlie McCoy, has his own keys to success inspired by bible verses that have helped him to this day.

“One of my favorite bible verses growing up was Proverbs 22:29,” he shared. “These days I’m more spiritual than religious but there are a lot of scriptures that have practical daily application and tons of scriptures that I even found practical for personal growth, business development and success.”

When speaking about Proverbs 22:29, it was easy to tell that McCoy has seen the benefits of applying the bible verse to his life, in personal and professional matters and urges others to do the same. The verse starts as follows, “a man who is skillful in his work, you shall see: before kings he will serve; he will not serve before the commoners.” One major tip McCoy has taken from this verse is that to become skillful at your work, you must master your craft, with mastery being your end goal.

Even in his decades of being a master barber, McCoy has come to know that practice makes perfect, and Proverbs 22:29 proves that famous quote right even more so. “Be relentless at honing whatever skill you have,” he advises. “Whether you’re a barber and you want to practice your form, different techniques, different styles and hair textures, as much as you can, immerse yourself in it. Even if you’re a lawyer, a chef, an athlete, or a creator, no matter what it is, push past your limits.”

By doing so you’ll be surrounded by “kings” as the verse says, or in other terms, people who inspire and will continue to push you in that direction of success. This goes into another key to success that McCoy lives and dies by. There is that saying that goes, “we are the sum total of the five people we spend the most time around.” In order to be surrounded by kings and not “commoners,” McCoy believes it’s imperative we’re around people who are successful in their professional lives and personal lives; people with compassion and empathy, because the more successful they are, the more successful you will become as a result.

McCoy also emphasizes the importance of making a mark and leaving it on the world, professionally. “You can have the greatest services and customer service but if no one’s ever heard of you it won’t matter. It’s all about marketing, and never forgetting that you’re constantly communicating to the world in different ways,” he advises. “Body language, the way you speak, the way you dress, the way you wear your hair, ask yourself “what’s your image” because you can shape that.”

“Have you invested in press or membership clubs like Soho House? Do different things that can put you in networking places so people can see what you have to offer,” he continues. These are the entrepreneur’s keys to success and they have worked seamlessly for him and can for you too as long as you hone your skills at the highest level, watch who you associate yourself with, do things with pure intent and stay in attack mode just like Charlie McCoy.
